Many men and women get yeast infections on a regular basis. They are quite uncomfortable, but they are also quite easy to treat. Yeast infections can occur in a variety of places around the body and they occur for a variety of reasons.

Thrush in Children and Adults

One of the most common yeast infections happen in children. This is the yeast infection known as thrush and it happens in the mouth or throat. This type of yeast infection looks like little white lesions around the mouth. It almost looks like moist yeasty flakes around the mouth. They might be able to scrape off, but they come right back on the mouth. Thrush is not normal for adults to have, but there are some instances where adults can develop thrush. Those who regularly use asthma inhalers with steroids can develop yeast infections in their mouths and some people who have diabetes can develop the white spots on their lips and tongue. They might also have a sore throat, cracking in the corners of their mouths, and possible difficulty in swallowing.

Diaper Rashes Are Common with Children

Another place where yeast infections can frequently occur is in the diaper area, as many diaper rashes occur as a result of yeast infections. This type of yeast infection does not look at all like thrush, but it looks very red and painful. Ironically, this type of yeast infection can occur after a round of antibiotics. Since yeast likes to thrive in areas that are moist and somewhat dark, the diaper area is an ideal place. Fortunately, there are many yeast infection creams that can help take care of the uncomfortable diaper rash that can occur.

Genital Yeast Infection in Women

Women can develop yeast infections in the genital area. When women have a yeast infection, she might have white, cottage-cheese-like discharge that does not seem very normal. It also might be painful and uncomfortable to have a genital yeast infection.

In Men

Men can also develop genital yeast infections and they usually happen in men who are not circumcised. Men who develop a yeast infection will find that they get a red rash on their penis and they will also feel that the tips of their penises are itching or burning. Whether you are a man or woman with a yeast infection, it is vital to take care of the issue because you can share it with your sexual partner.

Yeast Infections in the Blood

Some people also develop a dangerous form of yeast infection that can infect the bloodstream. This infection usually only occurs in people who have weak immune system or an exterior yeast infection that is not properly treated. The infection will need to be treated in the hospital and most people who have blood infection will also need an IV for an extended period of time. They might develop the infection after having a catheter or having spent an extended amount of time in a hospital in the intensive care unit.
